What he's saying, is if you want to embed an image or do any fancy formatting with your text or what ever you normally can do with forums you need to know the code to do it for example

for an image

! [ Alt text] ( / path/to/img.jpg)

! [ Alt text] ( / path/to /img.jpg " Optional title" )

Common problem: you want to make a list of things by typing something that looks like this:

number one
something else
I got conTrolled
yeahhhh

but it ends up looking like this:

number one something else I got conTrolled yeahhhh

Put two spaces at the end of each line, that'll make a new line for each one.

Actually I think it's the easiest. You pretty much type it out how you want it to look. The idea is that in both the raw and final states you still get a sense of the formatting.
